Wondering how to get the most out of running a Facebook business page? You’re not alone. So here’s some tips to get you started.
- Over 1.5 billion people are on Facebook.
- The average Facebook user has 200 friends. Utilising this social network enables a viral marketing effect that once started can grow your customer base quickly.
- Facebook has a wealth of valuable marketing information about your target audience.
These are the reasons why any business – large or small – should have a presence on Facebook. A large part of your potential customers are on there so it’s an opportunity for your business to :
- increase awareness,
- grow a following for your brand,
- create a place where customers can discuss products/services
- let people spread the word about your qualities and,
- make online sales.
Where to start
Before you start you need to have a clear idea of the following:
- Who is your target audience? What appeals to them?
- What is your objective / goal with using Facebook? (eg. attract new clients, build your brand, promote your services…) Defining clear goals will give all of your posts a purpose.
- What is your value proposition? – What do you have to offer your audience that’s of value to them?
The point of sharing on social media isn’t just to broadcast, you want to engage with your audience. It’s about having a conversation with them. Always try to write for your customers and prospective customers. What insider information can you, as an expert in your field, offer them that they can’t get elsewhere?
Understanding what your audience is looking for will make it infinitely easier to post compelling content. This will get easier the more you post as you’ll be able to see which posts are getting more attention.
So how do I get likes?
Even the best businesses will struggle to get those first “likes” on Facebook. One of the best pieces of advice I can offer anyone wanting to get more traffic to their Page is as simple as this: Interact with other Pages.
Due to the huge amount of content on Facebook, Facebook has a ranking system called Edgerank which controls the content people see in their feeds. This algorithm prioritises these stories to show users what they’re most likely to be interested in. One of the most important parts of that equation is engagement — the more your Page interacts with others on Facebook, the more likely it is that your posts will be seen by the masses.
What type of content should I post?
Think about what you target audience is interested in and what’s inline with your brand.
Here are a few ideas to help your Facebook Page get the attention it deserves!
Be visual – Facebook loves images and video, these types of post get 53% more likes than an average post.
Special offers – coupons/discounts in return for a “like”.
Competitions – running a contest encourages likes and shares
Be personal – Highlight your business and your staff – your business becomes more real and likeable
Find the humour – If you make them laugh, you’ll make them like
Keep it fresh – Avoid posting the same type of content over and over. Keep it interesting and change things up by posting quotes, videos, infographics and links from other sources.
Give your fans an opportunity to buy – Without spamming your likers, post links back to your website with products or services. You can even sweeten the deal by posting a Facebook-only promotion. Use clear calls to action on Facebook and on the page you’re linking to so they’ll know exactly what to do.
So remember, put yourself in the shoes of your ideal audience and ask yourself if you’d enjoy the content that you are posting.
Review, review, review
Use tracking URL’s and Facebook Insights to analyse your performance. Once you have some data you can determine what type of content works best for you and also how frequently and what times are best to post.
You can also make the most of successful posts using paid promotion. By spending a small amount each day you can ensure your most likeable posts reach more of your fan’s newsfeeds… and more of your fan’s friends too. Facebook Ads offer amazing insights for targeting prospective clients.
